Finally drawing a breath

Goodness. What a year it’s been already and it’s barely Autumn.

I’ve been appalling with updates.

Since it’s getting into autumn, I’ve started the preserving thing. I made courgette and ginger jam and my opinion is that it’s lovely, and I turned some outsized beetroot into beetroot and ginger chutney. I’ve not had chance to taste it yet, I like to leave my chutneys to mature for a few weeks before I try them; so the flavours develop, and the vinegar mellows.

Sadly the tomatoes that I had high hopes for ended up in a municipal incinerator after falling victim to blight.

The saving grace of having an allotment has been that throughout the Covid-19 lockdown, working on one’s allotment has counted as exercise, and so as long as you carry hand gel and don’t suddenly need the toilet, you’re fine to go as often as you like unless the government told you to shield or you needed to self isolate. I still have my sanity as a result.

It’s only short, but I’m hungry and my blind cat is needy.

Back soon!
