I discovered this essential truth on Wednesday. I called Andy the landlord and explained what had happened on Tuesday and he said he’d come out and see what could be done about fixing it or making it safe on Wednesday. Andy arrived while Dan and I were talking on Skype and kind of ended up joining in the conversation.
Anyway, to cut a long story a little shorter, Andy got all the glass off the front of the fire and made it safe, and then proceeded to tell me not to go barefoot for a while because I would be vacuuming up glass shards for weeks to come – and not 5 minutes later, I’d caught a shard on my hand and cut my knee!
I did vacuum everywhere twice before Andy left to go off to his next property, but I can tell you that a week later, I’m still vacuuming up glass shards. I have no idea where they come from, sometimes it seems there must be some sort of malicious imp following me around sprinkling them around because an area I’ve cleaned will have a shard of glass the next day.
I managed to be on time for work though, thank heavens. I sometimes feel like there are days when I barely get to work on time and I worry about someone coming to the conclusion that I’m trying to take the mick. I promise that I’m not, I just seem to go through phases when the whole world and my fireplace gangs up on me!
Not to worry, I decided in the end, I had a Dan all to myself from friday to sunday to look forward to. More of that in the next few posts.
